Designed to be a catalyst for great relationships, Greater Connections is like the networking version of speed dating. It places individuals together in small groups to network around a table. As the participants rotate around the room, they have the opportunity to meet just about everyone else in attendance.
“In addition to meeting people at the tables, I also use the time before and after to venture around and continue networking,” says Deb Fulton, account executive at Business People magazine. “I enjoy the opportunity to learn more about other businesses as well as inform people about all the latest and greatest things happening at Business People.”
Greater Connections events have been known to draw more than 40 members of the business community. Because time is valuable and participants have businesses to run, the schedule is followed closely, keeping things on track and focused.
“While the event has a relaxed feeling for attendees, the structure of Greater Connections ensures that the program is high-performing, effective and relevant,” says Jami Thomas, GFW’s director of investor services and programs. “We want to give our investors quality opportunities to connect with one another, build relationships and grow their business. This program offers that in an engaging and exciting way—all in just one hour.”
At their networking table, each individual is allotted time to give their elevator pitch, introducing themselves and their business to the other participants. They’ll also learn from one another about how they can support other businesses looking to grow.
To help gain even more exposure for their organization, participants are encouraged to bring branded door prizes that are given away to other participants at the end of the event. Those who bring a door prize have another opportunity to share their elevator pitch, but this time to all attendees at once rather than just their own table.
Greater Connections benefits have extended outside the immediate business community, and the program is now impacting education as well, connecting young talent at local colleges and universities with Fort Wayne-area employers.
“As the director of career services at Harrison College, I utilize Greater Connections to connect with businesses in the community that will benefit my students and graduates in their future endeavors,” says Crista Miller. “Through Greater Connections, I have met many wonderful professionals who are willing to connect with our campus on a deeper professional level.”
