You What?

Do you have a nickname? All DePauw graduates have nicknames! My unoriginal one is Fins.

Describe yourself in three words. Focused, driven and compassionate.

What is your go-to karaoke song? Karaoke? I don’t think so.

In what city did you grow up? The great Northern Indiana city of Elkhart.

What book did you read most recently? Perfect Rulesfor Imperfect Living by Jason Gay.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I was going to follow my father into dentistry. It’s a good thing that didn’t work out as I love community banking and Lake City Bank too much!

What is your favorite part of your job? Having the ability to make a difference in our communities; it’s a wonderful outcome of being a community banker.

What do you actually do at your job? Make sure that we keep a constant focus on taking care of the clients and communities Lake City Bank is lucky to serve.

What do you love most about Fort Wayne? The progressive business culture.

What was your first job? I was a paper boy with a cool Schwinn Stingray with canvas side bags.

What is your greatest accomplishment? Clearly, convincing Susan Findlay to hang out with me for the last 26 years.

Who is your hero? My father. He set a wonderful example for his children.

Do you have a motto you live by? If so, what is it? Get busy living, or get busy dying.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be? Really? He was Actually Good at Something?

If you could meet one person (living or dead), who would you want to meet? Ronald Reagan

If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with that time? I just don’t want to contemplate that situation. Life is too fun.

If you had a time machine, where and to what time period would you travel? I think it would be exceptional to visit the Continental Congress in 1776 and be a part of the creation of the Declaration of Independence that created the United States of America.

If you could listen to only one album for the rest of your life, what would it be? Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run

What is something nobody knows about you? My Mother’s Day gift to Susan every year is to plant all of our flower beds and flower pots for the summer.

Do you have any secret talents? I am pretty sure that I do not.

Where will you go on your next vacation? Northern Michigan.

If you could give your 15 year-old self advice, what would it be? Be a better listener.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? Be a better listener. Mike Kubacki, who hired me, told me that in 1986 when I was 25 years old. I wish I had heard it 10 years sooner from myself!

What is the best gift you have ever been given? Our daughters Audrey and Blair stole my iPhone and made an album of our family selfies for Christmas last year. It’s a wonderful book of entertaining memories.

Name one person who has inspired you in your life. My dad continues to inspire me. He’s committed to his family, his community and his beliefs.

What is your favorite...

Vacation spot? Anywhere with a view of Lake Michigan

Sports team? The Chicago Bears

Song? September by Earth Wind and Fire. It always makes me smile.

Drink? Beefeater on the rocks with a twist.

Movie? The Shawshank Redemption

Downtown locale? The new Lake City Bank office in the Ash Skyline building!

Fort Wayne feature? Sycamore Hills Golf Club. It’s a wonderful place.
