Bring out the cake and balloons, because Fort Wayne International Airport’s non-stop service to The Big Apple is turning one! On September 7, 2016, non-stop service launched from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) to New York City/Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on United Airlines. In the year since the inaugural flight took to the skies, thousands of people have experienced the sights and sounds of New York City with just one quick plane ride.

Service from Fort Wayne International to New York City/Newark Liberty International Airport was initially announced in April 2016 by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority and United Airlines. Not only has this new, non-stop route provided ample opportunities for both business and leisure travelers in our region to experience the Big Apple without the hassle, it has also filled a void by providing a unique East Coast connection for our passengers.

While this non-stop service does not fly directly into NYC, it is only a hop, skip and a jump away from Newark Liberty International Airport with numerous ways to get into the city. The airport boasts a number of ground transportation options including car rental, bus service, train service, taxis, Uber and more. This provides numerous travel methods into New York City whether you’re heading to a business meeting on Wall Street or hitting up the shopping along Madison Avenue. If you’re connecting to a different flight at one of the New York area’s other major airports, Newark Liberty has shuttle service that runs to John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia International Airport, making reaching your connections that much easier. EWR itself is also a great airport for both domestic and international travel, as it serves as a main connection for those traveling to the Caribbean and beyond.

Throughout the first year of service, FWA has been encouraged by the number of passengers taking advantage of the EWR flight, as well as the amount of community support the route has received. In an effort to promote the Newark service, FWA has partnered with many community partners including Visit Fort Wayne, the Downtown Improvement District, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership and Greater Fort Wayne, Inc. in various capacities to help make this route a success for the community.

With the addition of the NYC/Newark flight, passengers can now reach thirteen destinations non-stop from FWA, and hundreds more with just one stop! Seven of these one-stop destinations are to major airline hubs: Atlanta (Delta), Charlotte (American), Chicago (American and United), Dallas (American), Detroit (Delta), Minneapolis (Delta) and Philadelphia (American). The other five destinations are non-stop flights on Allegiant to vacation destinations including Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Myrtle Beach, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa and Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg.

Newark service on United runs daily, with the outbound flight leaving FWA at 6 a.m., and landing at EWR before 8 a.m. The inbound flight leaves EWR at 8 p.m., getting you back to the Summit City by 10 p.m. Book your flight now on the United Airlines website at united.com or call United Airlines reservations at 1-800-241-6522. Thank you for choosing FWA!
