When a person thinks about a loan from a credit union, it’s often a car loan or a personal loan or even a home improvement loan. But, a mortgage is often not the first thought.
“3Rivers has changed that perception,” says Ryan Schiltz, vice president of mortgage services at 3Rivers Federal Credit Union in Fort Wayne.
“3Rivers has consistently been one of the top two to three mortgage lenders in northeast Indiana for several years and services 100 percent of their conventional mortgages locally.”
As the credit union continues to grow in membership, assets and employees, the mortgage area has also grown considerably. This rapid growth has made way for a new facility that will position the credit union and mortgage area to continue to grow and provide an exceptional home buying experience for our community.
“We’ve announced plans to build a new branch and mortgage center in the Stellhorn Crossing development on Fort Wayne’s northeast side,” Schiltz continues.
The 16,448-square-foot facility will house a full-service credit union branch as well as a state-of-the-art mortgage center. The new branch will replace the existing branch on Maysville Road in the Chapel Ridge Shopping Center.
The mortgage center will provide office space for the growing mortgage department staff as well as four conference rooms, private video conferencing spaces and a community room for as many as 70 people. There the credit union will provide financial wellness seminars and training as well as community meetings and events.
When Schiltz began working at 3Rivers 14 years ago, there were only about five people working in the mortgage area, he says. Now the staff has grown to 44, due in part to the favorable housing market in the Fort Wayne area, as well as the strong growth of the credit union.
“We’ve had the most expansion (in mortgages) in the last 24 to 36 months.”
His department also helps homebuyers who want to purchase, or purchase and remodel to make that new home perfect. It also offers refinancing options for people who love their current home and just need to improve their financial position such as a change in interest rate, term, consolidation, improvements or a large remodel.
Schiltz says the credit union also helps many first-time buyers navigate the mortgage loan process from pre-approval through the closing and into the servicing of the loan that is done at 3Rivers. “The pre-approval makes sure the buyer knows what they can afford and it tells the seller they are viable and ready to buy.
“Our sales team will go where the members are, to meet with them at their convenience” he says, noting that 3Rivers provides new construction loans, land and lot loans, FHA, USDA and VA mortgages, jumbo mortgages and equity loans.
A native of Fort Wayne, Schiltz brings a wealth of knowledge to the mortgage process. He started his career in the title business more than twenty years ago. He later moved to the mortgage business at a local bank and two years later joined 3Rivers. Schiltz says he and his mortgage team understand the area housing markets. They have a broad knowledge of loan programs and work with applicants to provide them with options that best fit their needs and goals.
“Buying a home is the biggest transaction most people will ever make. So we strive to provide the highest level of service, any and all the information they’ll need, and what to expect during the mortgage process.”
