“When you pull into our driveway here, I think you just get a warm feeling,” says Tracy Schultz, executive director of The Hearth at Sycamore Village in Fort Wayne. “It is just beautiful here. We’re right off West County Line Road, so we have more of a rural setting and it’s quiet and peaceful and very cozy and comfortable.”
Schultz has a long and successful history of working in the retirement community field. She not only has a wealth of knowledge, but also a strong compassion for making The Hearth feel like home.
“We love making our residents feel like they never left their home. We have 137 good-sized apartments and all of them have great views of the property. We have several acres here and it’s all very nicely maintained with a pond and gazebo and lots of natural wooded areas. We have an awesome food services director, Lisa Jackson. She and her sister used to run The Bagel Station and she does a wonderful job of providing incredible meals in our dining room and she can also accommodate just about any special diet.”
Dr. Ryan Rolf serves as the medical director at The Hearth and a nurse practitioner comes every day and can see any resident in need of medical attention.
The Hearth also has a relationship with Paxxon Healthcare to provide physical and occupational therapy on-site.
“In addition to that, we have a full-time wellness aide and she handles all of our wellness and fitness programs,” says Schultz. “She has classes for the residents and can even meet one-on-one for personal training. We have a large fitness room on our third floor.”
A big focus at The Hearth is memory care.
“We have a secured memory care section and we check on our residents there every hour,” says Dick Hamman, director of community relations at The Hearth. “We are the only memory care center close to Whitley County and we are also a licensed assisted living community, which means we have a nursing staff available 24/7. We also have something here called, ‘Aging in Place.’ For our residents living here, we will take care of them until the end of their life and can even bring in hospice care for them if needed. That way, they can stay at home.”
“I think what sets us apart are the relationships we have here,” says Schultz. “We have a very loving team and a great spirit and the people who work here really enjoy taking care of people. The Hearth is a special place.”
