A History of Shaping Northeast Indiana

Since Al Zacher struck his first deal for the 300-acre Lincoln Industrial Park in the southwest quadrant of Fort Wayne, The Zacher Company has played an important role in the growth of northeast Indiana.

Now celebrating 60 years in the industrial and commercial real estate business, The Zacher Company has been recognized by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation as a Half Century Business Award recipient for 2021.

The award is given to companies that have been in business in Indiana for 50 years or more and have practiced exceptional community involvement — a hallmark of Zacher’s practice.

“One of our key principles is always putting our clients first,” says company President and Managing Broker Steve Zacher, Al’s son. “We strive to put client interest ahead of our own personal interest and have cultivated relationships that have lasted multiple generations.”

Since starting the business in 1961, projects like Magnavox Corporation’s headquarters at Constitution Office Park, Brotherhood Insurance Company’s headquarters, the Dana Corporation plant facilities and Parkview Regional Medical Center’s headquarters at Dupont Road and I-69 stand out. Al Zacher, who is 93, keeps his hand in the business he started after coming to Fort Wayne in 1954 to manage a small retail company.

His son Steve joined the business after leaving the auto industry, mainly because of his father’s contagious enthusiasm for the real estate industry and northeast Indiana.

The latest feather in The Zacher Company’s cap is the sale of land for two buildings that will house Amazon, the international online retailer. Steve Zacher has worked to find two properties in Fort Wayne for Amazon: 138 acres on Smith Road/Airport Expressway and 150 acres on US 30/Flaugh Road.

Zacher describes his company as being “data driven,” tracking trends in the industrial and commercial real estate market. “It’s one of the things that sets us apart.”

In fact, Zacher says, businesses in Indiana and throughout the country look to The Zacher Company for the latest market information. “We believe it’s important to spend time doing extensive data analysis.”

Both father and son have a bevy of awards for their involvement in the business community including membership in the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, a standard of excellence in commercial real estate.

Every broker at The Zacher Company is well versed in the commercial real estate market, Zacher notes. Their specialists have more than 200 combined years of experience, skill and knowledge.

“When a client engages our services, they know they are partnering with a top-notch team of real estate professionals.”
