Though rooted in bluegrass, Nickel Creek built a reputation as one of the most adventurous and eclectic groups in progressive acoustic music. Comprised of siblings Sean (guitar) and Sara Watkins (fiddle) and mandolinist Chris Thile, the trio first made a name for themselves as teenagers blazing their way through the festival circuit. Now, nearly 35 years later, the trio has lost none of their youthful exuberance, magical harmonies, or exhilarating, uplifting feel. Their virtuosic playing and three-part harmonies touch on everything from jazz to alternative music, bringing crossover success, a Grammy Award, and plenty of critical praise. After intermittent performances between 2014 and 2019, the band began touring again this year with their 2023 album Celebrants, Nickel Creek’s first studio album release in nine years, comprised of 18 bold tracks just as complex and daring as anything in the group’s catalog.
