“When you move in here, your whole world gets bigger,” says Lori Peare, director of sales for The Towne House Retirement Community. “Some people feel that moving into a retirement or assisted living community will lessen their independence. At The Towne House, many residents feel that they’re more independent in many ways. You’re with people your own age, there are lots of activities and pretty much everything you would need is under one roof.”
With its sprawling and well-manicured property off St. Joe Center Road on Fort Wayne’s north side, The Towne House has a reputation of always looking ahead to accommodate growth and market needs.
“We saw a demand from people wanting something bigger than a typical retirement community apartment,” says Sarah Horacek, director of marketing at The Towne House. “Our new apartments are just as beautiful and bright as our current ones, but they’re a little bigger. The largest one is 1,560 square feet.”
“I don’t think you can find an apartment that size anywhere else in Fort Wayne where assisted living would be offered,” says Peare. “All of our apartments have complete kitchens and full-size washers and dryers. I always tell people our apartments are what you would expect to see when you go on vacation and stay at a very nice resort. The emergency call system is the only way you know that medical assistance is offered if needed. Our amenities are definitely a standout.”
Like the existing building, the new apartments will be licensed residential, so assisted living services are available. In addition to the new apartments, another restaurant is being added to the campus. This dining room is still under construction and set to open when the new apartments are completed.
“We already have a casual café and a traditional dining room with linen tablecloths and this third restaurant will be unique and different, but just as nice as the other two,” says Horacek. “We’re still making decisions about the new dining option, but it will offer our residents even more choices. And anyone visiting someone here is more than welcome to eat in any of the restaurants.”
A fixture in the community, The Towne House recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Even after these newest apartments open this fall, there are plans to continue making The Towne House even bigger and better.
“We are planning to add an indoor swimming pool in 2017,” says Peare. “I think it’s another example of what sets us apart. This is a community and we want you to feel at home all the time.”
