For more than five decades, The Towne House Retirement Community consistently has been loyal to the word “more” by offering people more choices, more space, more care and more out of life.

“Just because people get older doesn’t mean they want less,” says Lori Peare, Director of Sales for The Towne House. “At The Towne House, we don’t take anything away, we just add to it. We give you more.”

That is evidenced by a number of recent and significant happenings with the well-established community off Saint Joe Center Road on Fort Wayne’s north side.

“This past October, we opened 34 new apartments through a two-year project to expand our community,” says Sarah Horacek, Director of Marketing at The Towne House. “We are opening a new, third restaurant on our campus this winter, called Fireside Grille. Plans are also in the works to add a natatorium for our residents. And in 2018, we plan to be breaking ground on an entirely new lifestyle community on Fort Wayne’s southwest side.”

That new community will be located on 60 acres of land off of Illinois Road, just east of the intersection with Scott Road.

“There’s been a tremendous amount of growth in that area with the shopping centers at Scott and Illinois,” says Peare. “Our new community will be a sister property to The Towne House. We haven’t picked out a name for it yet and lots of details still need to be worked out, but the one thing that we can guarantee at this point is that it will be a beautiful place to live.”

Peare points out that Fort Wayne’s southwest side is known for having impressive and inviting homes and says the new community will be no different.

“These will be spacious, villa-type homes with everything you would expect to have in a nice house. We give our residents full-size appliances and modern floor plans. I always tell people that The Towne House provides accommodations that are comparable to what you would find at a high-end vacation resort. They are very, very nice.”

Both Peare and Horacek say 2017 will be dedicated to planning and mapping out the new development with the actual construction taking place in 2018.

“We purchased this land a couple of years ago and we are putting a tremendous amount of thought and time into the project to make sure it’s what people want and need,” says Nancy Jones of BHI Senior Living, Inc., the parent company of The Towne House. “In the coming year, we’ll tour some of the nice, new homes that are going up in that area and we’ll be looking at things like finishes and details that people want. This community is really for the individuals who are looking to get out from under the maintenance of owning a home. However, they’re not wanting to completely change their lifestyle. They still have their families and grandchildren coming over to visit, they entertain guests and they have very nice homes with lovely furnishings. They’re not looking to get rid of everything, instead, it’s just a lifestyle transition.”

And as can be expected with The Towne House – there’s more.

“There are a lot of beautiful villa communities in southwest Fort Wayne, but I think what will set ours apart is that we can help people if they end up needing healthcare,” says Peare.  “We will be able to provide that to our residents, so they can stay in their homes. With other communities, when someone needs healthcare on a regular basis, it often results in them having to move because they can’t get the care they need at home. We will have assisted living and memory care available to our residents, which is very unique and different for that type of community.”

The Towne House is one of four sister communities owned and managed by BHI Senior Living, Inc., in Indiana. The southwest community will be the fifth. Jones emphasizes the importance of choosing a community that is local and well-operated.

“BHI is a very financially secure company,” says Jones. “We have an excellent track record and the success and popularity of The Towne House is a wonderful example of that. We take our time before starting any expansion project and perform market studies and look at what the trends are and what people want. We are also right here in the Hoosier state and committed to our residents. Our focus isn’t on the numbers and statistics. Instead, we focus on people.”

“We offer a full range of services in our communities,” says Horacek. “When you come to live here, we’re not just putting a roof over your head. We provide comfortable and spacious living accommodations that meet your needs today and can meet your needs of tomorrow as well. We like to remind people that our house becomes your home.”
