After starting his landscaping business in 1956 at the age of 17, Bruce Ewing began to grow his reputation by focusing on details and building relationships with his clients. He took great pride in his work and treated every project equally, no matter how big or how small.
Bruce passed away in 2011, but the company he founded, Bruce Ewing Landscaping, is stronger than ever, thanks to a continued emphasis on customer service and unparalleled high quality.
“He’s still very much a part of who we are even though he’s not here,” says his daughter Leslie Ewing Kitch, who now owns the company along with her husband Mike and brother Rob Ewing.
They enjoy the portions of business that focus on custom landscape maintenance, but also are proud of the creative landscape design and installation work they do.
“We excel at top-of-the-line landscape projects. The folks that really want their property to shine and stand out,” says Ewing Kitch. “The combination of a knowledgeable and professional staff and the time-tested processes and procedures that we implement, result in an exceptional finished look.”
In a competitive industry, they’ve become known for using the highest quality plants and materials, for guaranteeing their work and for unique and interesting designs. Whether they’re creating a concept for a new home or tearing out old landscaping to achieve a fresh look, they love the challenge of bringing a client’s vision to life.
“Some folks have a really good idea of what they want, and others don’t. We enjoy working with both,” Ewing Kitch says. “The earlier we are involved in a new home project, the better. Our expertise can be very beneficial in creating a cohesive landscape design. We work hand in hand with the builder and offer suggestions on house placement, driveway and sidewalk design, and layout.
When talking about the things that set them apart from other landscape businesses, the three owners agree. “We really listen and take the time to get to know our customers. We’ve worked with many of these clients for decades, completing multiple projects with them,” says Rob Ewing. “We also have several employees who have worked with us for over 25 years. In all, we have over 350 years of experience in the landscape industry under one roof. Both of those things are very unusual in this industry.”
At the end of the day, they say it’s about doing the right thing and following in the footsteps of their father.
“Standing behind what we do is part of the ‘Bruce’ culture. You can call it a warranty, but it is really building a lifelong relationship,” adds Mike Kitch.
“I think the bottom line is that my dad had so much integrity, passion and belief in who he was and in what he could provide, that really created the model that we follow today,” Ewing Kitch says with a smile. “He set the tone and it’s been our job to consistently make him proud.”
