The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport is seeking local high school seniors interested in applying for the Fort Wayne International Airport Aviation Scholarship.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority, in collaboration with the Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum, is looking for applicants for the 2021 Fort Wayne International Airport Aviation Scholarship. As northeast Indiana’s community airport, it is important to embrace the future of aviation and help provide opportunities to local high school students hoping to pursue careers in the aviation industry.
In 2011 the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority identified the need to provide scholarship funding to local students interested in pursuing paths in aviation, in order to support the future of the industry. The Airport Authority created the Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship to operate adjacent to the Jim Kelley Memorial Scholarship handed out by the Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum. Each spring, Airport Authority staff select area high school students who have either been accepted into a four-year college or university, or Ivy Tech Community College’s Air Frame and Power Plant Program, or Flight Certificate Program, to receive the Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship.
Airport scholarship funds are raised through the Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship Golf Outing; an annual event hosted by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority each August. The outing’s success can be attributed to support from the Airport Authority’s staff, stakeholders and the local community. Each scholarship awarded is in the amount of $1,500.
Students who are interested need to meet the following criteria:
