Calling all golfers! Summer is here and that means it’s prime golfing time. If you like showing off your swing, Fort Wayne International Airport invites you to join us for the annual Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship and Education Golf Outing on Friday, August 18.

The Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship and Education Golf Outing is an annual event hosted by the Airport Authority each August at Brookwood Golf Club. The outing raises money for the Fort Wayne International Airport Aviation Scholarship, which awards scholarships to local high school seniors looking to pursue degrees and careers in aviation or aviation-related fields. As the lone fundraising event for the scholarship fund, this outing seeks the support of staff, stakeholders and the local community to help students’ dreams take flight. The outing is a great chance to celebrate both the history and future of aviation while enjoying golf for a great cause.

In 2011, the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority identified the need to provide scholarship funding to local students interested in pursuing paths in aviation in college and beyond, in order to support the future of the aviation industry. Each spring, Airport Authority staff selects area high school students who have either been accepted into a four-year college or university, or Ivy Tech Community College’s Air Frame and Power Plant Program to receive the Fort Wayne International Airport Scholarship. Each scholarship awarded is $1,500.

In addition to providing scholarships to graduating seniors, the Airport Authority has started exploring ways to provide aviation education to the community as a whole. While facility tours are currently offered for all ages at both FWA and Smith Field Airport (SMD), staff is committed to finding avenues to bring the joys of aviation to an expanded audience through programming, events and more. Moving forward, funds raised through the FWA Golf Outing will also be used to support aviation education initiatives in the Fort Wayne community and northeast Indiana region.

The outing begins at 8:00 a.m., with breakfast and lunch provided to all players. Registration for a foursome is $300 and includes breakfast, 18 holes of golf, two golf carts per team, unlimited snacks and beverages, and more. Registration will open soon — stay tuned to FWA social media for more information or reach out directly to secure your spot ahead of time.
