Life Transitions: Who Do I Talk To?

Life is full of changes and transitions.

Regardless of our knowledge that changes and transitions occur, we are rarely prepared for what those transitions will mean to us and how they will affect us and our loved ones.

Since many transitions and change are our first time experiencing them, we plod through and make many rookie mistakes. We generally make it through the transition, but frequently wish that we would have better guidance and greater help for a better outcome. For many of us, our independent nature is a barrier to getting the assistance that would help us achieve a better outcome.

No matter what transition you are going through, there are professionals and others who can help. The trick is to identify the transition and then identify who may be helpful. Oftentimes, the problem is that you can identify the transition, but don’t know who to reach out to for help.

Trusted Professionals can be invaluable during life transitions. As a Licensed Social Worker and Certified Elder Care Coordinator, I often help guide people through major life transitions. I help explain processes and programs such as the Medicaid Waiver, Assisted Living versus Long Term Care Facilities, Working with Medical Professionals on complicated issues such as End of Life care, etc. There are many professionals that are knowledgeable about and address your specific needs when you or a family member are in a life transition.

My point is this: There is professional help for any life transition you are experiencing. You don’t have to go through transitions alone. Ask for help and be reassured that your outcomes will be better. In addition, you will give someone the opportunity to feel good about helping you.
