This year, members of the team at MedPro Group aren’t just commemorating the company’s 125th anniversary. They’re also celebrating the company’s mission, doubling down on their commitment to customers, and recognizing the hardworking employees who are dedicated to serving others.

MedPro has a long, rich history in Fort Wayne. Founded by two physicians in 1899 as Physicians’ Guarantee Company, its goal was to be the leading legal expert on medical malpractice, offering pre-paid legal services for malpractice litigation defense. In 1909, the owners reorganized to become the nation’s first insurance company to provide medical malpractice insurance. By the late 1920s, the company – then known as Medical Protective – had become the largest insurer of medical providers in the nation, insuring an estimated 30% of physicians and surgeons. 

In 2005, MedPro was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway. With Berkshire’s support, MedPro acquired several like-minded insurance companies, expanded offerings across the spectrum of healthcare and beyond, and further solidified its reputation as the industry leader. Today, trusted by more than 300,000 customers worldwide, MedPro provides customized healthcare liability insurance, claims and risk solutions to physicians, surgeons, dentists and other healthcare professionals, as well as hospitals, senior care and other healthcare facilities.
