As Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) rounds the corner nearing the end of 2024, there are wins from this year worth recognizing and celebrating. The airport continues to see a strong demand for travel from Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana, with passenger traffic on track to surpass 2023’s numbers. Among the reasons to celebrate? The return of non-stop service to Detroit on Delta Air Lines, larger aircraft serving existing routes and additional flights to established connections.

Return of Detroit Service on Delta Air Lines

FWA welcomed back non-stop service to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) in June. DTW offers over 140 non-stop destinations on four continents to passengers. Detroit Metro serves as one of Delta Air Lines’ major hubs and a great international connection – making it an ideal option for both business and leisure travel. The Fort Wayne business community championed for DTW’s route return and Delta responded, with a larger aircraft on the route as well.

Up-gauged Aircraft Coming to Charlotte

Non-stop service to Charlotte International Airport (CLT) on American Airlines has long been a successful route at FWA. Beginning Oct. 7, 2024 two of CLT’s three daily non-stop flights will be up-gauged to a larger aircraft, with American Airlines introducing the 65-seat CRJ-700 to the route. Charlotte remains a great destination and connection from FWA, and larger aircraft will only make the route more appealing for passengers.

Fourth Daily Flight to Chicago on United Airlines

FWA passengers have numerous chances every day to fly to and through Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) via two airlines; American Airlines and United Airlines. With a smaller presence in the Fort Wayne market, United has been focusing on growing its Chicago route by adding a fourth daily flight between Fort Wayne and the Windy City. This fourth daily flight briefly appeared in September of 2023, but has recently been reintroduced and extended into 2025.

Extended Third-Daily Flight to Dallas Fort Worth

American Airlines’ non-stop service to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has a long history at FWA. Over the years American has added frequencies and up-gauged the aircraft to meet the demand for this non-stop route. American has recently extended its third daily DFW departure through March of 2025, giving more options to connect through Dallas.

FWA’s success would not be possible without the support of the local community. Fly local – fly FWA! It’s your airport. Stay up-to-date with all things FWA at fwairport.com.
