Flying from Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) opens up a world of possibilities, no matter what your travel plans are! From nonstop destinations that may be where your feet will land, to connections offering a gateway to anywhere you need to go, FWA can take you there. One of FWA’s most recent (re) additions is nonstop service to Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on Delta Air Lines, making its return to Fort Wayne and easily connecting northeast Indiana to the East Coast, Europe and beyond.
FWA welcomed back nonstop service to DTW in early June with once daily service to the Motor City. With an early morning departure and evening return to FWA, flight times provide easy access to Delta’s connecting system through one of its busiest hubs. In a welcome upgrade from the route’s previous iteration at FWA, the aircraft has been up-gauged to Delta’s 76-seat CRJ-900, providing more seats to the market.
Connecting through DTW offers service to over 140 nonstop destinations on four continents and nearly every state in the Unites States to passengers. This opens the world up to northeast Indiana through just one stop! Detroit Metro serves as one of Delta Air Lines’ major hubs and Delta’s main gateway to Asia, as well as a great option for connecting to and through Europe. This is great news for the northeast Indiana business community that has facilities and clients worldwide. Using the FWA to DTW route is also a perfect option for leisure travel any time of year.
The return of Detroit service brings Delta’s nonstop routes at FWA to three, joining service to Atlanta (ATL) and Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP). This also brings FWA’s nonstop destinations to a total of 13 on four airlines, with nonstop service to Chicago O’Hare, Charlotte, Dallas Fort-Worth (American Airlines); Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis (Delta Air Lines); Chicago O’Hare (United Airlines); Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa, Tampa Bay/St. Petersburg, and Sarasota (Allegiant Air).
While the reintroduction of nonstop Detroit service has been a key part in FWA’s post-pandemic recovery and moving toward welcomed growth, it’s important that the community uses this route in order to make it successful. With the airline industry continuing to face shortages in both aircraft and crew, supporting your local airport and the services offered guarantees that a route will continue.
