Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is celebrating a record-breaking 2024! From increased passenger traffic to continued work on the East Terminal Expansion Project, the airport continues to thrive and serve as an asset in Fort Wayne and the Northeast Indiana region.

FWA saw a number of wins throughout 2024 and has remained fortunate to maintain (and grow) a great level of air service for the community with many airlines up-gauging aircraft and increasing route frequency – adding more seats to the market and opportunities to fly FWA. The airport ended the year with a 19% increase in flights and 21% increase in seats over the same time-period in 2023.

The increase in flights and seats in the Fort Wayne market positively impacted FWA’s passenger traffic, with the airport celebrating a banner year! In December 2024 alone, FWA saw a 20% increase in passenger traffic compared to December 2023. When looking at 2024 as a whole, FWA saw over 430,000 enplaned (outbound) passengers choose to start their journey from the airport – an increase of 8% over 2023. In total, the airport saw over 856,000 passengers fly in and out – an increase of 7.6% over 2023. Both enplanement and total passenger numbers marked record-breaking traffic for FWA!

Among the wins in 2024 are:

  • Non-stop service to Detroit on Delta Air Lines returned in June 2024
  • American Airlines began to up-gauge the aircraft on non-stop service to Charlotte
  • United Airlines added a fourth daily flight to Chicago O’Hare in August
  • American Airlines extended its third, daily non-stop flight to Dallas

As FWA looks ahead in 2025, there are already reasons to celebrate.

  • United Airlines has extended its fourth daily flight to Chicago O’Hare
  • American Airlines will begin up-gauging the aircraft servicing its non-stop Chicago O’Hare route in April
  • Delta Air Lines will begin offering a second daily non-stop flight to Detroit beginning June 8

In addition to passenger traffic and route growth, FWA will continue moving forward on the East Terminal Expansion Project as part of the airport’s overarching Project Gateway. While much of the East Terminal Expansion has been in the construction phase, the airport’s new restaurant area opened in October 2024 with local businesses Hop River Brewing and Bon Bon’s Coffee serving passengers. FWA’s new Gateway Lounge by STAR Bank is slated to open later this winter, with the terminal’s new Grand Hall and second-floor gates expected to follow later in the year.

As FWA reflects on a successful 2024 and aims for an even better 2025, thank you to the northeast Indiana community for choosing FWA!
