Fort Wayne International Airport prides itself on being a smooth and efficient airport, making flying local as easy as can be. However, there are always things you can do to make your trip even easier, including making sure your identification is up to date and taking advantage of programs aimed at making your travels smooth flying.
Upgrade to the Real ID
Will your license fly? That is the question all air travelers should be asking themselves as the May 7, 2025 deadline to upgrade your driver’s license to the Real ID looms near. After that date, every traveler wanting to board a plane in the United States will need to have a Real ID compliant driver’s license, or other form of compliant, government-issued identification such as a U.S. Passport. Those without a Real ID compliant identification card will not be allowed to pass through the TSA checkpoint to board an aircraft. If you are unsure whether your ID is a Real ID, simply look for the star symbol in the upper portion of your ID. If there is no star, you do not have a Real ID.
If you have questions about Real ID or the process, you can visit the TSA website (tsa.gov) or the Indiana BMV website (in.gov/bmv).
Sign Up for TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening process that allows enrolled travelers to move away from the long lines and experience faster, more efficient screening at participating U.S. airport checkpoints. The TSA PreCheck program allows participating flyers to leave on their shoes, light jackets and belts, and leave laptops and compliant liquids in carry-on bags. A permanent TSA PreCheck enrollment center is open just minutes away from FWA at 4227 Bluffton Road in Fort Wayne, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Once your application is approved, you’ll be bypassing the security line in no time!
Enroll in Global Entry
If you travel internationally, Global Entry is a great option for making re-entering the country as smooth as can be. Travelers enrolled in this program enjoy expedited clearance at select airports upon arrival back in the United States. When arriving to the U.S., Global Entry members can save time in the customs process with expedited clearance, using automated Global Entry kiosks. Other benefits of Global Entry include avoiding processing lines and paperwork, access to expedited entry benefits in other countries, reduced wait times and all TSA PreCheck benefits.
If you are looking for a Global Entry interview appointment close to home, stay tuned to FWA social media, as the airport occasionally hosts mobile Global Entry enrollment events throughout the year!
Thank you for flying local by flying FWA!
